A Victorian terrace built circa 1880 is on the market for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The two-bedroom, one-bathroom terrace house is located at 50 Campbell Street, Wollongong.
The property is situated in a row of six Victorian terraces and has an asking price of $679,000.
The Office of Environment and Heritage says the row of terrace houses at 46-56 Campbell Street is of significance for the local area for historical and aesthetic reasons.
"The row of terrace houses retains its potential to interpret the history of the area and presents a locally representative example of Victorian period high-density speculative housing, relatively rare in Wollongong," their website states.
"The row of terrace houses is a very important element in the streetscape, (and) it is readily identifiable as part of the historic building stock of the area."
Evie Highland purchased No.50 in 1991, from another long-term owner.
"In '91, Wollongong was still very much a steelworks town, and I suppose it's changed to a university town now," she said.
"So there wasn't the restaurants and all the fun stuff in town that there is now.
"It's probably been built up a lot around it, over that time… I guess it would be one of the last remaining historical type of buildings in Wollongong now."
Ms Highland said they had undertaken work on the property. This included fully insulating the home, putting in a new kitchen and bathroom, re-plastering the inside and rewiring.
She said it had briefly been a rental property, but they had lived in it for the majority of the past 28 years.
Ms Highland said the property was being sold as they had moved to Melbourne for work-related purposes.
"I think it's a very charming place that's central to everything," she said.
"It's retaining a bit of the early history of Wollongong as well."
Ms Highland chuckled when asked if she was reluctant to part with the property.
"I am," she said. "I still really like it - it's nice and cool in summer, it's got a beautiful breeze that goes through it.
"I think it's a really unique place in Wollongong. People often stop and ask you about it.
"If you're working out the front they'll often talk to you about the house, because it's really eye-catching.
"I think it would be ideal for a young couple starting out, because it's so centrally located and there's not a lot of work that they would have to do on the house.
"They could have a nice lifestyle and it's got a little garden, so you can still entertain."
Features include a formal lounge and separate dining area, French doors to the courtyard; galley kitchen; modernised bathroom featuring Penny Round mosaic tiles; and 11-feet ceiling height and three fireplaces.
The selling agent is MMJ Wollongong director Daniel Hastings.
"Its scarcity is a big thing - a lot of people appreciate the old-world charm of a Victorian terrace," Mr Hastings told the Mercury.
