Cafes, Restaurants & Bars

Towradgi’s growing success as a popular suburb can be attributed to its fantastic food and drink scene that makes casual lunches on sunny days something everyone can look forward to. Perhaps the most popular is Towradgi Beach Hotel (TBH), an iconic venue offering delicious food, family-friendly activities, and entertainment throughout the day and into the night.

Towradgi Park Bowls & Recreation Club is also a popular spot for food, drinks, entertainment – or to play some bowls!

Locals can dine in at a range of phenomenal cafes, many of which are highly rated in Wollongong’s competitive café market, and Wollongong’s flourishing food and drink scene is only a ten minutes’ drive away!  

Shops

The suburb of Towradgi itself does not offer as much shopping as its surrounding suburbs, however Fairy Meadow or Corrimal are the closest with a quick 5-minute drive (if that) away for grocery shopping, restaurants, and cafes. More so, Wollongong’s CBD is only ten minutes away.

Things to Do

As one of Wollongong’s most beautiful beaches, Towradgi beach is the main attraction, with a surf club, saltwater rockpool, surfing and fishing spots, a playground, and dog-friendly areas

For fitness enthusiasts, Towradgi is also home to a scenic cycleway (part of the Wollongong to Thirroul Bike Track), the North Dalton Park Regional Sports Complex which offers top-notch facilities, and McKeon Swim School.

Sport

Towradgi’s North Dalton Park is the home ground of the Wollongong Lions, an Australian Rules Football Club that play in the AFL South Coast competition.

Dalton Park and North Dalton Park are also the playing fields for touch football, baseball, tennis, and cricket.

Schools

Towradgi Public School is the suburb’s local primary school; however, parents have a variety of great schools to choose from in surrounding suburbs. Almost every surrounding suburb has their own public school, with the additional option to choose from nearby independent schools such as Holy Spirit College, St Mary Star of the Sea College, or The Illawarra Grammar School. 

Parks

There are plenty of open parks and playgrounds in Towradgi, such as Towradgi Park and Weber Park. Towradgi’s beach park and rock pools have also recently been upgraded, creating a great outdoor space for families to hang out.

Water

Towradgi Beach is located 5km north of Wollongong’s CBD. It extends 3km from Towradgi Creek in the north, to a southern estuary formed by the following streams of Cabbage Tree Creek and Fairy Creek. The beach also allows dog access on the beach on leash in summer before 9am and after 6pm, and in winter before 9am and after 4pm.

If you are in the mood for a day trip, Towradgi is around 1.5 hours away from world-famous national parks including the Royal National Park to the north and Jervis Bay National Park to the south. 

Transport

As for public transport, several bus routes run through the suburb, and trains stop regularly at the local railway station. Towradgi is just 20 minutes by bus or train into Wollongong central, as well as about the same to the University of Wollongong.

It has quick, easy access to Sydney via Mount Ousley Pass, taking just under 1.5 hours to reach Sydney CBD.

Fun Fact

On Towradgi Road sits a small bridge affectionately known in the area as "the hump" due to its short and steep rise, and it is not uncommon for some cars to become airborne if they pass over this bridge at a high speed.
