A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR OUR REGION

A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR OUR REGION

In association with the NSW Premier’s press release today, MMJ Commercial are proud to announce that the ex David Jones store in Wollongong will be established as a Mass Vaccination Hub by the State Government as a matter of absolute priority.

“MMJ takes great pride in brokering the deal to make this happen” comments Michael Croghan, Director,  Commercial Leasing.

The building is well known locally as the home to David Jones for over 30 years, occupying a landmark position to the city centre. MMJ were appointed to the property by a private client to assist in a range of professional services looking to explore multiple strategies for the asset given the recent departure of a long standing tenant.

Ultimately, we were pleased to secure the NSW Health for a mass vaccination and COVID testing site for the medium term.

“It’s fair to say we have earned a solid reputation with various government entities over many years, so we're best placed to provide the market insight, urgency and degree of sensitivity that was needed”

NSW Health specifically sought our guidance due to the immediacy, importance, and scale of their requirement. The outcome was more than a simple lease deal. It provided a ‘win’ for all concerned: the general public, the city centre (significant foot traffic into the Mall), and of course medium term holding income for our client whilst investigating re-positioning of the asset.

“This is exactly the type of deal we take great pride in, a win for the region’s population at a crucial time;

a win for the tenant (NSW Health) in securing the best premises available; a win for our client/the landlord; as well as a much needed win for the Crown Street Mall with up to 3,000 people a day forecast to visit the facility”

“This is a very large building of some 8,700m2 over 4 levels. The vast majority of the building will be utilised, so it is a big undertaking in anyone’s language. We wish them every success”

We are passionate about the Illawarra, so this is the type of transaction we take great pride in.
