MMJ Assists Homeless Hub to bridge the gap from homelessness to home.

After establishing in October of 2013, Wollongong Homeless Hub & Housing Services (WHH&HS) is a non-for-profit organisation who strive to bridge the gap from homelessness to home.

MMJ Wollongong’s Commercial Leasing team met with Mandy Booker, the Chief Executive Officer of Wollongong Homeless Hub, at the beginning of August to gain a better understanding of how WHH&HS operates and what services they provide to those in need.  Mandy explained that there are over 1200 “rough sleepers” including single parent families, women and children fleeing domestic violence, people living with mental health and those recovering from alcohol or drug addiction. They have noticed a growing number of women over 55 who find themselves in this situation.

WHH&HS help link those to other support networks who provide access to funded homelessness, health, legal, housing and financial services.  They offer hot breakfast 5 days a week and shower and laundry facilities.  They now have a van – OSD – that meets at locations (where there is a high level of homeless who find it difficult to travel) to deliver support assistance, clothes, toiletries, bedding and food.

The Hub relies on the generosity of the local community and companies who volunteer and donate money, food, toiletries, opal cards and other necessities.  Mandy and her wonderful team are committed to help the homeless and those at risk. We were happy to be able to make a small contribution, and it is our intention to continue.
