Exciting developments are underway in Wollongong City Centre as the Wollongong City Council has recently granted approval for the construction of a new luxury serviced apartment building. Located at the Flinders Street gateway corridor to the CBD, this multi-storey development is set to redefine visitor and tourist accommodation in the area.

The approved nine-storey building will feature a total of forty-seven serviced apartments, comprising a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units. Ground floor spaces will house ancillary commercial uses, which will contribute to improving the vibrancy of the precinct. On-site car parking for some seventy spaces will be provided over two levels of basement. In addition, thoughtfully designed and landscape podium communal spaces, including swimming pool, will enhance the overall experience for tourists and visitors, enhanced by views of the Illawarra Escarpment.

Designed by ADM Architects, the newly approved serviced apartment building showcases a modern and innovative architectural design that will improve the quality and amenity of the ever-improving public domain for this part of Wollongong. With its strategic location at the gateway to the CBD, the proposed serviced apartment building aligns with the ongoing high-density development and transformation of the area.

Luke Rollinson, Director of Town Planning & Advisory at MMJ Real Estate Wollongong, provided Town Planning services for the project approval and expressed enthusiasm about its potential impact on visitor and tourist accommodation demands within the CBD. He stated, "The approved luxury serviced apartment building will be a game-changer for Wollongong CBD's accommodation offerings. This development approval will help fill a significant gap in the market for premium tourist and visitor accommodation, and we hope will also be a notable contribution towards revitalising this area”.

Artist's impression: The newly approved nine-storey building will feature a total of 47 serviced apartments, comprising a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units.

Anticipated to achieve a 4-5 star rating, the serviced apartment building will offer a high-quality experience to its guests. With 24-hour reception and staffing proposed, visitors can expect exceptional service and support throughout their stay. The development has attracted notable interest from tourist accommodation chains and operators, given its accessible location close to public transport nodes and complementary tourist activities.

Travis Machan, Director of Commercial Sales at MMJ Real Estate Wollongong, has been a key advisor for the stakeholders of this project and emphasised the tailored needs and target market demographics catered by the serviced apartment building, adding, "This development has been carefully designed to meet the specific requirements of both business and leisure travellers. The spacious layouts and upscale amenities will particularly appeal to families seeking a comfortable and luxurious stay in Wollongong."

The approval of this serviced apartment building marks another milestone in the ongoing development and rejuvenation of Wollongong's CBD. It reflects the city's commitment to embracing progress and promoting tourism, ensuring that visitors have access to world-class facilities and a truly exceptional experience during their stay.
