From Plans to Poses!

We’re excited to announce that a determination has been received for the internal fit out and change of use to a reformer pilates and yoga studio at 66–68 Keira Street, Wollongong, also known as Pilates Haus Platinum CBD.

The building, which has housed various uses over the years, including a gaming shop, video shop, surf & snow shop, and bathroom furniture shop, has been awarded a new face as an indoor recreation facility.

With the increasing residential density within the Wollongong CBD area, as observed by the construction of several high-rise apartment buildings along Princes Highway to the northwest of the site, it is crucial to ensure the supply of appropriate services to accommodate new residents, which includes recreation facilities.

Local business owner, Rayna Gillott, is responsible for opening three Pilates Haus studios across the Illawarra region over the past 5 years, with her most recent addition at Keira Street being her fourth studio to date.

While the business does not accommodate on-site car parking, the use was able to be justified on the basis that most customers would likely walk from nearby residential buildings or utilise public transport. Council was able to support this as the subject site is located within the Wollongong CBD, which is an area that Council can offer credits and waivers to reduce the requirement for car parking.

At MMJ Town Planning, it’s important for us to ensure that our local community can be supported by a range of uses. In addition, we greatly value any opportunity to work with local business owners to help them achieve their goals.
